Samuel Yett

Mr. Samuel B Yett, Jr. was born on December 7, 1922 to Samuel and Inez Yett in Parrottsville, TN. He grew up in Johnson City, TN and attended school there. After high school, Sam and his younger brother enlist in the Army during WWII. He served 39 months in the Medical Corps. While in service he married his hometown sweet heart. To this union there where two sons born. After attending Morristown Junior College, Sam transferred to North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina. He completed his Bachelorâ€™s Degree in Health and Physical Education in 1950. At this time his marriage was dissolved and he moved to Detroit, Michigan. On his numerous trips back to his Alma Mater he met and began to court his 2nd wife Muriel Knight. When Muriel graduated from College, Sam and Muriel were united in marriage. To this union, 2 girls and 2 boys were born. Sam worked with his uncleâ€™s construction company and then was hired to develop and manage the new re-creation facility at Northville State Mental Facility. He worked there 17 years before he was transferred to Chryslerâ€™s Management Job Training Program. He was retired from Chrysler in 1979 at the young age of 55. He returned to that sector as a consultant for another 5 years. Sam spent his early retirement helping to care for his father-in-law, and keeping his yard as the showplace of the neighborhood. After the death of his father-in -law, Samâ€™s health began to decline. It was then that the need to seek a less demanding living situation was made and Sam and his wife moved to Carrollton, near the youngest son. He had 3Â½ years here before his transition. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Jack and Clayton, his four sisters, Myrtle, Odessa, Blanche and Madeline, He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 56 years Muriel, his brother, Johnson H . Yett, sons, Charles (Tammy), Albert, Samuel C. (Patricia), Karl (Kathryn), daughters, Debra (Steven Howard), Wanda (Bradford Hughley) and Latisha Reynolds. 25 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The family wishes to express deep and profound appreciation to Tanner Hospice Program, especially Belinda McEachen and Tashira Grier for their exceptional care and concern of Sam. Also the great support from our pastor and fellow parishioners at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, and all of our neighbors and friends. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, 11:00am, April 15, 2009 at St, Andrews United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Manley officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 P.M. The American Legion Post#143 will fold and present the flag following the service In accordance with the families wishes following the service the body will be cremated.
